euth's weekly download - late september 2026
hi again. got some music fresh and ready for you, check it out. i am getting the feeling that the moods and techniques that have been piling up over the last decade or so are starting to coalesce into some really excellent music. these three want your full attention, which is noteworthy. maybe we are getting out of the background music era.

this kind of record doesn't come around very often. listen to it first, would hate to color your first listen. ---

this is practically pre-canonized, immediately in consideration for best of the _______. immersive, conceptual, evocative, hypnotic. in conversation with sly stone, madlib, prince, hendrix, funkadelic, and mostly pushing past all of the above. not only is it experimental, boundary pushing, but also imminently listenable, with hits scattered across its hour runtime.
composed of structures barely holding together, piled with drums, fx, instruments dripping across the stereo field, atmospheres drifting in and out, evocative soundscapes, diverse sonics, heavy grooves. the rap is as good as the songwriting, the singing, the instrumentation, fitting right in. its not an experimental album with rap songs, or a rap song with experimental interludes. its all one thing, one coherent expression, with each element serving each other element. beyond all of this, the lyrical content is moving, provocative, and more situated in present reality than maybe any recent record i can recall. i'll have to sit with it for a while but one of the great albums of the decade certainly, century, etc. slots right into a conversation of exclusively the heaviest hitters. forgive the superlatives, but they may be warranted here.
pablo's eye - everything you give away
big time cinematic psychedelic chill out record. i bounced off the spooky intro track a couple times before the right mood struck and i was able to lock in. what i found was an overflowing psychedelic spectacle, reminiscent of the kind of bombastic sometimes corny records associated with the worst of the flower power movement, its commercial peak. your moody blues, maybe (my beloved) 10cc, bloated attempts to capture the kind of whirlwind storytelling of a record like sgt pepper. with electronic chill out however, many records aspire to disappear, mostly devoid of big cinematic moments.
everything you give away provides plenty to react to. front and center spoken word monologues, dramatic gestures, arrangements that leave room for surprises around every corner. it contrasts with many of its contemporaries by not merely conjuring a mood, but putting that mood to use, using tones and textures to tell a story rather than perfume the air. again, i love perfumed air-type music, but this was a refreshing use of a familiar palette. it's still chill for the most part, don't worry. perhaps its unique approach is partly derived from experience. pablo's eye, an international art collective, has been releasing music since 1989. i have yet to grapple with their discography but am eager to. a record that wants your full attention, and will reward it. that's what i mean when i say cinematic. there are a few playlistable chillers here but most really want to be heard in context of the LP, a quality i adore. anyways check it out, really sick.
ear - rumspringa
i think this may be omnipresent already in some corners, so forgive my basicness but this is so beyond up my alley. bedroom electronic melancholy with bombastic outbursts of electronic pop (electroclash-ish (pronounced like hashish)). calls to mind orchid tapes (particularly ghost orchard), dntel's early stuff. a tight 30 minutes with dramatic ebbs and flows, diverse sensations. excellent songwriting throughout. i see theres some surfgang connection, which is kind of a fun connection to SOTC (by way of earl & MIKE's recent surfgang release). ties it all up in a tidy bow doesn't it?
its really exciting that this kind of thing is coming out, and that the kids seem stoked on it.
i dont think i have the energy to get into my andean music obsession, but here are some links for the time being.
